Council to Cultivate Internet Vitality, Integrity and Liberty - CCiViL.org

CCiViL.org’s mission is to cultivate cyberspace civility, while upholding civil liberties. Cyberspace civility, the purposeful extension of a foundational principle of society and law to the Internet, concerns behaviors between and among people, groups, entities and technologies that affect societies—especially acts related to cyberethics, cybersafety and cybersecurity.

All members of society and entities that use or profit from the Internet share responsibility for mitigating online behaviors that undermine safety and security, however, the complex nature and immense size of the Internet pose countless difficulties to the purposeful cultivation of cyberspace civility. CCiViL.org exists to help individuals and entities in this regard, starting with digital communities, networks, and media used by members of the public that are hosted by private businesses (including, yet not limited to YouTube, Twitter and Facebook).

In collaboration with industry leaders and diverse public service organizations, and through strategic partnerships, research, digital literacy education, cyber-ranger training, outreach, advocacy and other activities that promote awareness, accountability and civility, CCiViL.org will co-create an Internet infrastructure and culture that fosters and defends socially responsible commerce and human dignity.

CCiViL.org is a project of Use the New Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1998 and based in San Francisco, California.
